Fire Cupping
Fire cupping is a popular favorite of the patients in this office. It generally feels good to them, but more importantly they often experience significant therapeutic results by relieving chronic qi and blood stagnation in the muscles.
Fire cupping involves lighting an alcohol soaked cotton ball that has been clasped with forceps. The fire is then placed in the cup, quickly removed, and the cup is immediately placed on the area of interest. The flame burns the oxygen in the cup creating a suction when placed on the body. This suction is responsible for removing stagnant blood in the muscle, therefore forcing new blood flow to the tissue and decreasing discomfort. The cup may remain stationary or it may be moved up and down the back or area of interest. It often creates petechiae, red or purplish pinpoint spots, over the area being treated.
Cupping is very effective for chronic muscle tightness and soreness, and it can also be effective in treating a variety of conditions such as colds, asthma, chronic bronchitis, and more.
Cupping is very effective for:
- Chronic muscle tightness and soreness
- Colds
- Asthma
- Chronic Bronchitis
